another poor pub serving less than average food and being served by staff that seem to be happy to stand around chatting/having food fights/playing with their mobiles...

What happened to The Engine? Live music in the garden, birthday parties every week, real home cooked food..all stopped!
The new owner(s) have done nothing to improve the place except reduce the price of the draught beer.
I do hope it gets back on its feet to the levels of 2011, used to be a nice place to go.

have to agree with the last comment. new owner seems more concerned with filling the place with cheap drinks and alcoholics than decent food and families. i tried a couple of times since it was taken over but stopped going in now..also,it feels like your disturbing one of the girls on the bar cos she cant remove herself from her mobile.not happy.

AVOID...Called last week for the first time since last November with some friends and could not believe how its changed..but not for the better!!
The smell of dirty chip fat hit as soon as we walked in the door, then the beer left a rank after taste. Add to this the lip stick on 3 out of 6 glasses and at best average meals we were not impressed. Dont know whats changed but we wont be rushing back.

The Engine, (hunslet), was recently recommended by friend Sheila in Hunslet Catholic Club. June & I called today and had an excellent meal with drinks. Will definitely call again - possibly on Tuesday to try their 'pensioner Specials'. The pub is now refurbished to a very high standard and has extensive exterior seating accommodation at the front and, secure for children, at the side. June and used to visit the pub regularly some 20 years ago when Charlie Baxter played the piano for 'sing alongs'.

Plus points- Good food at reasonable prices. Large portions and all home made. Large enough choice of drinks. Clean and tidy (even the toilets). Could do better- Car park not big enough. Little cold if not near the fire. Negatives- None that I can think of.

Had a Halloween kids party here what a waste of money poor burnt cold food. Disco at other side of pub no dj so it want really a disco just a lap top in corner and a flashing light. Kids nearly had hot food spilt on them loads of times due to being put near the kitchen then land lady had cheek to send a rude txt to my friend saying they shud have stayed stuck in corner loads of adults and kids in pub my till was £500 down don't now how she got £250 off me for a rubbish service plus bar money . Not family friendly and poor service don't book a party here .

Just been to the engine for my granddaughter's 2nd birthday with 12 children and 14 adults. Fantastic food, everyone commented on how tasty the food was. Lasagne was a popular choice but so too was the curries and steak pie. The chips are fantastic. Very generous portions. Kids all had a slush too at very reasonable price of £1 each. Food was cooked fresh to order and came piping hot and more or less all together. All credit to the chef and to the waiting staff. Lovely chilled atmosphere. Lovely beer garden too. Been lots of times and will be going lots more times too! Keep it up!

We visited as a family of 6 on bank holiday monday, the pub was clean and we got a friendly welcome from the young man behind the bar. The food was delicious and very generous portions. It arrived quickly and was presented well. The pudding were also nice not to big just right size if you have any room left that is! It was child friendly and was busy the whole time we were there. Will definitely come back! The staff were all polite and helpful especially the young man who went ou of his way to ake sure we were all happy with our meals!

Eight of us went yesterday (Sunday) for a little one's birthday. I was pleasantly surprised at what they have done to this old pub. Looks good from the outside and the decor inside was clean and modern. The food was hot and very good served by friendly staff.
We will visit again and recommend to friends and family.
Thank you.

Been twice now once with the hubby for an anniversary tea on the 14th June and then then following week on the 21st with my sister and her hubby. Both times the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent .The home made soups are delicious and very filling and most definitely homemade and the chips that came with the main meal were good old fashioned proper chips. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.

just had a meal here and was very disappointed.the chips were greasy and undercooked and the "homemade" burger was pink and raw. we was offered replacements but declined the offer as we were put off. needless to say we will not be returning here in the near future. sharon leeds
